You will join an established team led by Professor Elizabeth Perkins.

The project will be managed by Helen Mulholland, with support from Dr Leanne Burton; two established researchers with expertise in mental health and health services research.


We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated qualitative research methods researcher to join our multi-disciplinary team with a shared vision of improving mental health outcomes for children and young people (CYP) across Liverpool and beyond.

You will have a Degree in health research, public health, social sciences, psychology or a related discipline and experience of working with service users in health and social care research.

You will have a flexible and collaborative approach to work and be able to demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills and good organisational skills.

A track record of publishing good-quality research is desirable.


Adolescent Self-Harm Psychotherapy to Improve Relational Expertise¿ (ASPIRE) is a brief (five, weekly 1-hour sessions plus 1 follow up session), self-harm specific intervention provided by trained therapists within 2-weeks of initial help-seeking.

This project will assess the acceptability, feasibility and safety of implementing ASPIRE into standard pupil mental health referral processes and data management systems within two secondary schools in Liverpool.


You will support the day to day activities of the ASPIRE project, including: pupil recruitment; administration of pre and post measurement tools; post intervention qualitative interviews with pupils, parents/carers, therapist and education-based staff; data analysis; dissemination planning and execution; administrative duties in support of Advisory Group/Project Team/Steering Group meetings.

The post is available for 15 months from 1st October 2023 to 31st December 2024.
