Our materials are highly regarded and you will have the exceptional editorial skills to build on this success.

You will be able to turn complex clinical information into clear and concise copy, using an understanding of health literacy and plain English.

You'll also produce webpages using a content management system (CMS). Applicants with an understanding of digital disciplines such as accessibility and content design would be especially welcome.


We work at a lively pace and enjoy a wide variety of projects, working acrossour siteswith different healthcare professionals and patient groups.

We're also passionate about evolving our service and have recently embedded broader digital disciplines like content design and supporting the development of digital products.

We produce evidence-based information in line with our robust processes that underpin ourPIF TICKaccreditation.

Here are some of the tasks you can expect to take on as part of this role.

  • Interpreting complex and sensitive information and turning this into easytounderstand resources.
  • Using a content management system to produce accessible and wellstructured online resources.
  • Editing materials using principles that support health literacy and inclusion (including plain English) in line with the NHS content style guide.
  • Ensuring resources are accurate and evidencebased by following our robust process for the development of all information.
  • Producing a range of print materials and webpages focused on meeting the needs of patients, their carers or loved ones.
  • Managing a varied workload, utilising strong project management skills to keep on top of tasks.
  • Champion the difference our information makes to people accessing services within the Trust.
Additionally, you can expect to work on some exciting projects including:

  • redesigning existing print resources to populate our Trust website
- exploring how to make public feedback process more meaningful
- refining our internal processes to align with our new ways of working

Job summary


The patient information team is responsible for developing and updating high-quality resources, designed to meet the needs of our patients, and their families and carers.

We produce hundreds of patient information resources a year.

The majority of this is written content on the Trust's website, but we also work on leaflets, books, films and other digital projects.


The patient information officer will work closely with clinical teams from across the Trust to develop accessible and clear information, in line with our policy and approval process.

The post holder will also work closely with patient information leads (staff in each clinical specialty with an interest in patient information) to help govern our resources.


The Trust has recently redeveloped its public-facing website, enabling us to transform the way we deliver content to the communities we serve.

Our online health information will comply with accessibility guidance, meet clear user needs and follow best practice of content design and the NHS Digital Service Manual.

This will require closer working between our digital communications and patient information teams.


The post is suitable for someone with significant or substantial experience in digital content management, and additional experience in publications, editorial, communications or patient involvement.

It is suitable for someone with excellent verbal and writing skills, and attention to detail.


The post holder will work with the wider communications team to raise awareness of the value of good health information, our processes and the range of information we have available.

The quality of our patient information has been recognised by awards from the BMA and the Bupa Foundation.
