The role:

IOC Flight Dispatcher


Do you want to be part of a professional Flight Dispatch team that manages a global network on a 24/7 basis? A unique opportunity has arisen for experienced Flight Planners to join our British Airways team based at London's Heathrow Airport.

You will be responsible for the safe and efficient flight planning, dispatch, flight monitoring and proactive management of our daily flight schedules across the globe.


What you'll do:


  • Ensure automated and manually calculated flights are planned in a timely nature to documented standards, policies and regulations; balancing costs, punctuality and the customer proposition.
  • Using operational systems and a detailed understanding of policies, ensure appropriate restrictions, checks and briefs are applied whilst flight planning (e.g. scenarios, regulations, OPDEFs, performance calculations, volcanic ash, RAIM and IFPS validations).
  • Use detailed Flight Technical, Flight Dispatch and Operational knowledge to influence operational decisions.
  • Analyse and interpret aeronautical publications and alerts, updating system data or escalating as required.
  • Pre-Emptive or reactive intervention and stakeholder communication for all flight plans where the "defined mission" has changed, delay mitigation is required or defect/performance limitations impact the aircraft and its allocation.
  • Lead proactive diversion planning and coordinate stakeholders during inflight stage of an aircraft diversion

What you'll bring to British Airways:

  • Competent in the use of complex operational systems
  • Able to operate within a defined set of rules / parameters to ensure compliance in a regulated industry
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work as part of a team or as an individual.
  • Excellent planning and forecasting skills.
  • Sound knowledge of Operations business & systems.
  • High level of analytical skills and logical development of solutions and evaluation of scenarios.
  • Remain up to date on wider business issues and able to see big picture and relate to role.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and able to reprioritise when mitigating circumstances change.

Your experience:


  • You will be an established Flight Dispatcher or Flight Planner, ideally currently working within an airline operation that covers a 24/7 network.
  • Proven experience of managing in an operational and Air Traffic environment.
  • Proven experience of people management in a change environment.
  • Experience in operational systems.
  • Must be able to pass Flight Dispatch/Flight Operations Officer course in order to hold position
