Job Introduction
An opportunity has arisen for a Payroll Administrator in the Payroll and Pensions team based in Plymouth.

You be reporting to the Payroll manager.

You will be responsible for information processing of the Company payroll for its employees and pensioners (of its two largest pension schemes) from start to finish on a monthly cycle.


If you are offered a position, you will be required to complete and provide a satisfactory basic DBS check that shows any unspent convictions or conditional cautions.

Main Responsibilities

  • Process and check temporary data for individual employees and the batch update of the payroll system.
  • Maintain live payroll records (this includes employee and pensioner records), implement data changes, including the processing of statutory payments.
  • Assessment of individual pay and associated statutory deductions to enable update of payroll records and to ensure compliance with HMRC, the Pensions Regulator and Company Pension regulations.
  • Assess occupational and statutory, sickness and maternity entitlement and allowances, in accordance with the relevant regulations and within the prescribed timescales. This includes the appropriate communication to individual staff and Employee Relations.
  • Responsible for organising the process required for the outgoing post from the section in accordance with NGED and Royal Mail procedures.
  • Develop and maintain internal and external relationships with staff, pensioners, associated Company departments and other third parties.
  • To deliver results in accordance with the Company's payroll timetable and within the departmental budget.
  • Good knowledge of PAYE and National Insurance regulations, employment legislation including SSP, SMP.
  • Good understanding of the Data Protection Act requirements and Company employment policies
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written with the confidence to engage with both internal and external parties.
