We have an exciting opportunity for an inspirational leader to join our team in Kent and Medway NHS Social Care Partnership Trust (KMPT) as Service Director for Acute Services.


Our focus is on supporting committed and compassionate leadership which enables a culture of quality improvement where everyone has a voice and where service users, carers and staff collaborate to have a direct impact on the things that matter most.


KMPT have transitioned to a directorate leadership model where community services are geographical aligned with our Health Care Partners and acute services are managed within one directorate.

The directorates are led by a Service Director and Clinical Director working in partnership with operational and clinical leaders. Our operating model represents the shift to local delivery supported by collective commitment to learn together and continually improve.

Our Acute Director role covers a portfolio of inpatient services across four sites, Thanet, Canterbury, Maidstone and Dartford. The Directorate is responsible for 15 acute psychiatric wards, 1 Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit and Places of Safety.

The post holder will be a visible leader who is responsible for operational planning and delivery across the directorate including the successful implementation of change / transformation programmes.


The post holder is expected:


To be accountable for the delivery of KMPT strategy through the development of robust business plans, the setting of relevant operational targets, and for the delivery of its activities within agreed budgets and to agreed standards.


To lead, with the Clinical Directors and Heads of Nursing & Quality the effective working of governance structures, roles and responsibilities based on multi-disciplinary approaches with an emphasis on collaborative leadership and team working.


To ensure there are effective relationships with all Service Directors to support our work with place-based partners including third sector organisations, local authorities and other external stakeholders.

To ensure there are mechanisms in place to involve key stakeholders in all aspects of service planning and delivery, to develop culturally sensitive services and to ensure fair access to services irrespective of gender, sexuality, religion, culture, race or disability

This position provides an opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced individual to play a significant role in leading and improving mental health services within the Trust
