Job PurposeTo work alongside other qualified mechanics to carry out regular servicing, maintenance and repairs on a mixed fleet of commercial vehicles, and their equipment, ranging from vans to 44 tonne articulated vehicles in accordance with the principles outlined inthe DVSA publication "Guide to Maintaining Road worthiness" and VOSA standards.
Job Tasks- Carry out all maintenance tasks to ensure compliance with Operator "O" licence requirements.
- Service and repairs of vehicles to a high standard.
- Prepare vehicles for annual MOT inspection and ADR testing.
- Diagnose faults and make necessary repairs in a timely manner to ensure maximum vehicle availability using computerised diagnostic equipment.
- Repair driver reported Defects and record as actioned.
- Attend vehicle breakdowns as required.
- Be prepared to travel away from home if required (call outs).
- Complete necessary paperwork and records.
- Carry out 6 weekly safety inspections to VOSA standard liaising with department Transport coordinators to ensure maximum vehicle availability.
- General workshop duties, including maintaining good garage housekeeping standards.
- Work within the Health and Safety Policy.
- To check with the Group Technical Manager or deputy for what action(s) are required for any feed safety incidents
In addition to the above, the post holder will be expected to carry out any reasonable task which falls within the scope and purpose of the post.
Experience- Fully Qualified HGV mechanic (NVQ level 3 or equivalent)
- Must have a good depth and breadth of knowledge of diesel, hydraulic and electrics
- Experienced in HGV workshop environment
- Full UK driving licence (HGV desirable)
- ADR trained (desirable)
- Light fabrication and welding experience (desirable)
- Good attention to detail
- Selfassured but not afraid to ask
- Strong organisational skills
- Good case and time management
- Ability to "think on feet"
- Excellent problemsolving skills
- Selfmotivated
- Able to work under pressure
- Good communication skills both verbal and written
- Able to form good working relationships with other employees
- Willing to work variable hours and be flexible to the needs of the business and department
