The Role

Are you an experienced Administrator looking for your next role delivering comprehensive administrative support with the Education team? Do you thrive in a fast-paced and varied environment where you can use your communication, organisation, and planning skills to manage a diverse workload?


The Faculty of Science, Agriculture and Engineering is seeking an exceptionally experienced, organised, and enthusiastic individual to join the School of Engineering's Professional Services team.

This is an exciting role with responsibility for supporting the successful delivery of an excellent student and colleague experience.


As part of the Education Team, the post holder will provide comprehensive administrative support to ensure the smooth and effective running of the School's taught programmes.

Your duties will span the full student lifecycle from registration, assessment and progression to graduation. You will also be responsible for coordinating key academic committees and processes.

You will be creative, have a keen eye for detail, and look to identify and implement improvements wherever possible.

Working with a variety of stakeholders, you will demonstrate initiative, efficiency and attention to detail and a willingness to be flexible to support the wider team.

A positive 'can do' attitude and a flexible and helpful approach is essential.

The position is open-ended and offered on a part-time basis (26 hours per week) with an immediate starting date. The role is predominantly campus-based on the City Campus in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Key Accountabilities
Responsible for providing expert guidance to students and academic colleagues regarding standard and non-standard queries and requests
To support the Education Team by acting as secretary for designated meetings and committees which will include agenda preparation, circulation, producing bullet point actions and monitoring progress of actions
To lead on the collation of university documentation and data collection for Education processes
To provide assistance with coordinated student activities such as external audits, student support on extenuating circumstances, Boards of Examiners processes and inputting and uploading of student marks
To line manage and provide professional support and training to a small team of Education Assistants, ensuring key information is updated and checking accuracy of data on university systems throughout the year
To provide support for school events such as student induction, student social events and University and School visit days

The Person (Essential)

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
A flexible attitude to work demands and customers and a commitment to excellent customer service
Good IT skills with experience of Microsoft suite of programmes
An excellent communicator both verbally and in writing with the ability to tailor messages to the appropriate audiences
Ability to follow and implement policies and procedures

Ability to work calmly under pressure and to manage competing deadlines
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Experience of administrative duties, including but not limited to general meeting
support, diary management, dealing with enquiries
Ability to train/develop and manage other staff

Qualifications:

Maths and English at GCSE Level 4 or equivalent OR significant relevant work experience in an administrative or customer service setting
