Job purpose

To provide nutritionally balanced meals for children aged 011 years
Carry out independently, or alongside the nursery chef, varied tasks such as food preparation, keeping areas of the kitchen clean and tidy, dishwashing, allergy support etc.

Duties and Responsibilities

To maintain hygiene and cleanliness within the kitchen and dining area to a 5* standard within the kitchen area, working with all the health and safety guidelines in accordance with Safer Food and Better Business
Cook and prepare a selection of hot meals, snacks and puddings according to company menus and recipe cards.
Contribute regular risk assessments and be responsible for record keeping linked to the kitchen environments
Monitor and stock take food and housekeeping supplies for the nursery
Follow the company's purchase order procedures
Support room staff with meal times and helping to serve food, encouraging children to eat and always seek to improve the quality of service
Have a great knowledge of food allergens and always try to provide substitutes and meet all the dietary requirements of the children
Attend and cater for any outside events and staff meetings
Build and maintain successful relationships with children, parents/carers and staff.
Have due regard to confidentiality, child protection procedures, health and safety, other statutory requirements and also read, understand and adhere to all other company policies and procedures relevant to your role
Work collaboratively with out of school club and nursery colleagues as part of a professional team; and carry out roles effectively, knowing when to seek help
Attend and participate in training and development activities as required and participate in professional development and review
Ensure good standards of hygiene and cleanliness are maintained at all times and be responsible for the welfare, health and safety standards appropriate for the needs of young children and comply with health and safety rules and regulations and legislation.
Advise the manager/deputy of any concerns, for example, over children, parents, the safety of the environment and the preserving of confidentiality as necessary.
Promote and safeguard the welfare of the children and young people that you come into contact with.
Act in compliance with data protection principles in respecting the privacy of personal information
Be aware of the high profile of the setting and to uphold its standards at all times, both in work hours and outside
Be flexible within working practices of the setting, undertaking other responsible duties where needed
