About the Role

Base Location:

Flexible, however our preference is that you will be based in one of our key UK or Ireland sites, which includes but is not limited to: - Glasgow, Perth, Aberdeen, Inverness, Reading, Havant, Belfast or Dublin.


Salary:
£74,600 - £112,000 + car/car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

As Head of Climate Change leading SSE's Net Zero Transition Plan 'NZTP', and reporting directly to SSE's Chief Sustainability Officer, you will:


  • Collaborate with key internal stakeholders to ensure robust governance and effective monitoring of NZTP actions, and drive sectorleading disclosures and engage external stakeholders in advance of the annual 'say on climate' resolution. Periodically reviewing the relevance and efficacy of the NZTP, its targets, and the associated actions.
  • Lead the quality and coverage of SSE's Climate Change Policy, supporting business units to achieve policy principles, as well as leading the annual climate assurance process and report to key committees.
  • Establish a comprehensive Groupwide strategy for Climate Adaptation, ensuring strategy alignment across the group and presentation of Climate Adaptation Strategies to Executive and Boardlevel committees.
  • Develop a climate engagement strategy and represent SSE in climate forums, supporting the Sustainability reporting team to implement sectorleading sustainability disclosures in alignment with international standards, and contributing positively to the development practical climate action in the power sector and corporate world.
  • Manage a small dynamic team within the Group Sustainability Practice Team, whilst providing leadership and coordination to climate leads embedded within Business Units.

What do I need?


If you're ready to take on a leadership role in climate action, drive sustainability, and contribute to a net-zero future, SSE is the place for you.

You'll already be a credible leader in climate forums, with investors and stakeholders, and demonstrate a broad understanding of the power sector in the UK or Ireland, as well as an understanding of decarbonisation pathways and net zero strategies.

To be considered for this role, we'd also love you to have:


  • Exceptional communication skills, able to communicate complex technical and scientific issues to a nontechnical audience of decision makers and business leaders.
  • Technical knowledge and understanding of climate science, corporate disclosure frameworks, international and national climate frameworks, and climate issues in a corporate context.
  • Knowledge and previous experience of constructing climate adaptation plans and strategies.
  • A talent to influence business leaders and an ability to navigate alternative and opposing perspectives whilst demonstrating accountability, good judgement, clarity of thought, and collaborative instincts.
  • A patient and nurturing disposition to coach and support direct reports and colleagues from across the company.
