Job Description:


An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated individual to join Scottish Widows within the Real Estate & Housing Team as an Associate Director with responsibility for origination, structuring and transacting of Social Housing loan investments.


The RE&H Team (currently 12 people) sits within the growing Loan Investments Team which is tasked with optimising the return on the annuity investment portfolio, a key priority of Lloyds Banking Group Insurance Division.


The Team is targeted with the sourcing, execution and ongoing management of high value loans principally across the Commercial Real Estate and Social Housing sectors.

This is a real exciting opportunity to be part of a team sourcing, assessing and completing loan investment opportunities in the Social Housing sector.

Some of the activities you'll be involved in are:

  • Originating, negotiating/structuring and recommending new investments, identifying risk and assessing vs appetite.
  • Building trust with clients, prospective clients and advisors. Demonstrating engagement, understanding and a desire to get things done.
  • Leading the negotiation of the price and terms of proposed loan investments.
  • Liaison with other areas of Lloyds Banking Group, third-party introducers and directly with clients in the direct origination of new investments.
  • Collaborate with multiple partners, influencing and securing support for investment proposals, advising teams of the characteristics of specific transactions whilst understanding the financial implications and return dynamics.
  • Building the market profile of Scottish Widows with internal and external partners, advisors and potential clients.
Experience and knowledge in at least some of the following areas is desired:

  • An understanding of the UK social and affordable housing and/or commercial real estate sectors would be advantageous
  • Understanding of credit risk and credit rating metrics/methodology
  • Investment execution:

transacting opportunities from origination to investment closing, including credit analysis and approval, due diligence and negotiation of legal documentation.- Able to think creatively to solve complex legal, structuring and regulatory challenges.- Understand the implications of external factors on Team proposition and being able to identify trends and opportunities.- Confidence to be able to challenge the status quo and seize opportunities for improvement.- Strong commercial judgement, able to see through complexity and understand the key drivers of a transaction.- A practical, hands-on approach to getting things done.- A good knowledge of the macroeconomic and credit markets.- Ability to prioritise tasks and make effective judgements about the importance of competing needs.
