An opportunity has become available for a full time band 2 HCSW at the Ophthalmic outpatients department at Rochdale Infirmary.

All necessary ophthalmology skills will be delivered to the successful individual.


Main purpose of the job:

Healthcare Assistant eye outpatients department, Undertaking the role of assisting the professionally qualified staff in the delivery of all aspects of care so as to ensure patient focused care is delivered safely and in a timely manner.

Provide clinical support as required to help ensure the efficient and effective running of the Ward/Department at all times.

  • Assist registered staff in the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of the ophthalmic patient.
  • Complete and record visual acuity of patients.
  • Instil & Assist with eye drops as per medicine management policy.
  • Complete BPs, vital signs and Venepuncture and cannulation as required.
  • ICare, pupil check, VF or OCT skills.
  • Support the patient when transferring between departments.
  • Receive and relay oral and written messages in a courteous and explaining nature.
  • Act as a messenger under the direction of the trained nurse with other departments e

g:
pharmacy, pathology, radiology, stores.

  • Order supplies for the department.
  • Undertake clerical duties, input in electronic patient record under the direction of the ward manager or named deputy.
  • Talk with patients and offer them support when anxious or distressed.
  • Use appropriate communication skills in the presence of any aggressive or abusive behaviour.
  • Assist in developing an environment that supports the value of nursing care.
  • Carry out clinical duties in accordance with National, Trust and local standards and policies.
  • Support patients/clients of the promotion of health and prevention of illness.
