This is an exciting opportunity to join the learning team at Aerospace Bristol to deliver our fun hands-on activities to learners of all ages both within the museum's state of the art learning centre and at outreach events across the country.

The Museum champions aerospace design and manufacturing from the perspective of those who were part of it.

The Museum has STEM learning at its heart and aims to inspire, entertain and inform present and future generations through their understanding of, and engagement with, the stories and collections of Bristol's aerospace industry - past, present and future.

It is home to the last
Concorde ever built and the last to fly when it returned to its birthplace at Filton.

Overview


Our Learning Deliverers (LD's) welcome young visitors to the museum and lead them in one or more of our fun hands-on learning sessions or tours as part of their visit to Aerospace Bristol.

LD's also join our Outreach Officer at outreach events to facilitate drop-in activities, assist in spreading the word about our amazing museum and inspiring young people to think more about careers in STEM.

We deliver activity sessions 7 days per week and there is a high demand for activity sessions and outreach at the weekend so many shifts will be on a Saturday or Sunday.


Job Purpose

Key areas of work will be:

  • Deliver STEM and History based activities, learning sessions and outreach
  • Bring the museum to life through high quality engagement activities suitable for a wide range of interests and abilities
  • Work with other organisations to deliver a wide learning offer from preschool to postgraduate level
  • Work with agencies to engage new audiences, especially harder to reach groups such as young people, NEETs, and those with disabilities and mental health issues

Tel:

  • Evaluate all activities and implement changes as appropriate
  • Act as an advocate for learning and the museum to the public and stakeholders
  • The delivery of STEM and History based education, learning and community engagement activities
  • Promoting learning programmes and projects to target groups
  • Ensure best use of day to day preparation of learning spaces and equipment
  • Act on evaluation of learning activities, events and programmers as part of the wider
HLF project

  • Maintain an uptodate knowledge of best practice in museum education, STEM education and learning, in order to provide the best possible service

Knowledge, Experience and Skills

Essential:


  • Teaching experience
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering learning activities, ideally in a heritage setting
  • Experience of working with children and across different age ranges
  • Good written and verbal communication skills including public presentation
  • Excellent team working, communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to fulfil the travel requirements of the role
  • Willingness and availability to work weekends
  • Good customer service experience in a customer focused organisation
  • Adaptable, and willing to embrace new ideas and change

Desirable:


  • Professional Teaching Qualification
  • Experience of working with volunteers
  • A good understanding of the national curriculum and the latest innovations in teaching practice
  • Excellent IT, social media, facilitation and presentation skills able to deliver presentations to groups in a friendly but professional manner, as well as to plan and facilitate workshops
  • Innovation, creativity and problem solving able to rise to a challenge by providing innovative and practical solutions
