A rare opportunity has arisen to join the Infection Prevention and Control team at GWH on a three-month secondment or fixed-term basis in the newly-created role of PPE Coordinator.

The IPC team is proud to be a multidisciplinary team and this role is open to all registered healthcare professionals.

The PPE Coordinator will lead, coordinate and support a programme of FFP3 mask fit-testing across the Trust.

They will work with clinical and non-clinical teams to ensure staff have access to, and know how to use, all types of personal protective equipment (PPE) used to prevent the spread of infection.

  • Support and deliver training on all forms of PPE across the Trust, imparting clinical knowledge and guidance to both clinical and non-clinical staff.
  • Deliver and coordinate a Trust wide programme of fit testing for FFP3 masks in accordance with an accredited Fit2Fit course.
  • Audit the correct use of PPE and support the learning needs identified within this.
  • Link with department managers, departmental fit-testers, Health & Safety, Procurement, and Occupational Health and others to support in all related areas of PPE provision, use, training governance and compliance.
  • Work with the IPC team to coordinate the network of departmental fit-testers and ensure they are kept up to date with information and training, and are competent and accredited (via a suitable Fit2Fit programme) to provide fit-testing.
  • Ensure records of fit-testing are maintained, updated and recorded on the Employee Staff Record (ESR) system, working with the HR and IPC teams to achieve this.
  • Use ESR and fit-testing records to produce reports on fit-testing rates and compliance.
  • Manage the data streams related to the processes supporting the use of Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) in the Trust, including FFP3 masks, ensuring compliancy and accuracy with the
national and local data submissions required by NHS England, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and other external organisations.

  • Manage the processes of servicing, filter changes and cleaning required for reusable RPE devices(such as hoods or reusable FFP3 masks) and fit-testing equipment (such as Portacount machines) and
manage the associated HSE requirements of this.

  • Support the Trust in meeting the resilience principles set down by NHS England in relation to fit-testing provision, access to RPE, record keeping, compliance monitoring and reporting.
