The role is important for the smooth running of this busy Paediatric Critical care area.

Whilst working under the direction of the nurse in charge and supporting a multi-disciplinary team with receptionist duties, you will be expected to show initiative and communicate well, both in writing and verbally.

The post holder does require computer literacy and full training to use the hospital systems will be given. The unit cares for very sick babies, children and young people and this may be stressful to some applicants.

A receptionist is required to complete the team.

The post involves shift work working as part of a 7-day rota (which includes Bank Holidays) typically covering 8am - 10pm Mon-Fri and Sat & Sun.

We expect you to be caring, enthusiastic and well motivated. You'll need to demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills. You'll also manage to demonstrate behaviours consistent with the Trust's "We are here for you" behavioural standards.

Working for our organisation

To liaise with other Receptionists to ensure a continuity of service.


To meet and greet all visitors to the Paediatric Critical Care Unit personally or by phone in accordance with the Trust's values, beliefs and behaviours.

To receive incoming telephone calls and relay messages appropriately.

When taking laboratory results or messages to read them back to the caller to confirm accuracy and hand directly to nursing or medical staff.


To facilitate the access of patients and visitors to and from the Paediatric Critical Care unit using the security doors.

To ensure that visitors receive accurate directions to where their relatives are located on the ward.

To make necessary arrangements for the admission, transfer and discharge of patients. To check that all documentation has been completed, both in medical records and on the Medway PAS system.


To keep all medical records in an orderly and presentable form, including correctly identifying all history sheets and investigation reports, and inserting them in the correct order.

Keeping the notes trolley clean and free from dust.

To support families with access to food vouchers, car parking and access to the parents overnight stay unit.

  • 2 GCSE's including English at Grade C or above or equivalent
  • RSA II Word Processing / Typing

Salary:
The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.
