What you'll do

Jaguar Land Rover has made a major investment in new testing capability to ensure future Powertrain development can take place and meet the business requirement to develop new and exciting products.

A facility has been specified that will be established in late 2017 that is state of the art and provides a unique opportunity for testing of complete vehicle Powertrains.

The Powertrain 4x4 Test will be located in Coventry close to the Whitley test site.

It is the most advanced 4x4 Powertrain Test Facility in the UK enabling JLR to test Powertrain's in either component or full vehicle form.

The Powertrain Test Cells are part of the Powertrain Test Operations (PTTO) and Product Development. The team maintains productive workflow from the PTTO test facilities. This workflow includes engine build, Powertrain preparation, vehicle workshop, and engine dynamometer and rig test capability.

Our function is to support Powertrain and Product Development in their objective of achieving 'timely, quality' product releases.

Key accountabilities and responsibilities
The Powertrain 4x4 Fitter Tester will be responsible for:

Taking ownership of the vehicle (UUT) outside the building from logistics.
Vehicle handling thereafter.
Confirmation of instrumentation asper test instruction
Conduct prep work for palletizing (welding, mechanical workshop)
Installation on ViL & PiL
Connection of network between automation system and vehicle
Handover/cooperation with technician and test engineer
Operate rig based on written instructions every day (manual, automatic)
Use of testbed software tools, PUMA, INCA etc
Keep Detailed records of actual usage of the equipment (time spent, consumables used, data generated) which is auditable
Support decisions around running the tests and troubleshooting and resolving issues
Routine maintenance (incl. 5S) of UUT, ViL & PiL
Deinstallation of UUT after test
Deinstallation of instrumentation as per instruction
Handover of UUT to logistics
Repair/maintenance on vehicles/Powertrains
The person filling this role will work on a shift system within a facility that runs 24 / 7.

What you'll need

Essential:

An apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 vocational qualification in core competence, e.g Mechanical or Motor Vehicle Engineering and 3 years relevant technical experience
Functional Skills Level 2 or equivalent in English, Maths and Science
Computer literate, including Microsoft Office competency preferably with a European Computer Driving Licence
Experience of working on prototype engines and transmissions
Experience in Powertrain test environment, including fault finding, problem analysis and rectification
Ability to work quickly and pay attention to detail

Desirable:

Knowledge and experience of using test cell instrumentation and external measurement devices
Experience of palletising engines and gearboxes for installation in test rigs
Good electrical knowledge and awareness of HV regarding EV.
Knowledge company Health and Safety requirement, COSHH regulations
Ability to use INCA diagnostic software
A clean full driving license
