Flats Recycling Project Officer:

There is an exciting opportunity available in the Environmental Services Improvement Team to help us improve recycling. We are looking for a self-motivated person with knowledge of waste and strong communication and organisational skills.


The purpose of the role is to work in a team to deliver the Flats Recycling Project, which will continue the roll-out of infrastructure and communications improvements at estates and blocks of flats across the borough.

The aim of the project is to increase the quantity and quality of recycling collected, and to improve access to services.


Key responsibilities will include:

  • Carry out site visits jointly with representatives from landlords or alone to determine if correct waste and recycling infrastructure is in place. Using waste specific knowledge and best practise to make an assessment and where required suggest improvements
  • To collect and record data and take photos on site, and take responsibility for ensuing information collected is accurate, complete and filed appropriately. To use the information collected to write up reports with recommendations
  • Assist in developing partnerships with housing providers and other stakeholders to help deliver waste and recycling improvements on estates and in block of flats
  • To monitor to ensure a good standard of service delivery, contractor work and compliance with agreements made by housing providers and landlords
  • Provide residents, council staff and caretaking staff with face to face and written information to help them to improve waste and recycling behaviours
