The main purpose of the role is to Undertake system administration tasks, to ensure the operational integrity of all relevant Police Systems is maintained, acting as an authoritative source of expertise in all areas of user operation of designated Systems. Provide ongoing support for other team members and systems.


Main Responsibilities:

Provide a resilient and comprehensive system administration service to the Force for all relevant I.T. systems. Ensure system compliance with legislation, guidance and policy escalating non-compliance to Supervisor.

Understand and interpret business requirements to provide a consultancy service to third party suppliers. Interpret supplier documentation to provide meaningful detailed information for the business.

Attend Force and Regional User Groups reporting back to Supervisor and Manager. Produce minutes of meetings for distribution to interested parties.


Establish, maintain and administer the security environment of the systems including the completion of changes to and monitoring usage of User Privilege, authorisations, passwords to prevent abuse of system data and facilities.


Represent the department/Force at Software Suppliers System User Groups producing reports on planned change and developments for the relevant business areas and consideration by the System Admin Manager.


Carry out System Acceptance testing for all new functionality both in force and with Software suppliers under the guidance of the Supervisor.

Report on any system faults and issues to software supplier.

Carry out bespoke system training where necessary.

Ensure data audit checks, data verification, data back-up, data archive and management of back-up media are carried out.


Ensure integrity, fairness and consideration of the needs of others are incorporated into the daily duties and relationships with colleagues.

To undertake other duties commensurate with the nature, level of responsibility and grading of this post, as required.


Experience/Skills:

GCSE Maths and English A-C or equivalent

Understanding the importance of confidentiality and sensitive data

Knowledge of the role of a system administrator within a large organisation

Evidence of past employment that required attention to detail and the ability to prioritise tasks effectively and work to tight deadlines

Experience of working to policy, legislation and guidance

Evidence of interpreting user needs and requirements

Working within a team in a busy administrative function

Proven Customer Service skills

Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to empathise and manage diverse views from colleagues at all levels across the organisation and confidence in dealing with others

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Innovative thinker with desire for continual improvement and natural ability and desire to problem solve

Excellent attention to detail
