The Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy & Biomedical Sciences (SIPBS) seeks to appoint a suitably qualified researcher to the position of "Research Associate in data science" who will add to our current portfolio in research.

The role will involve curation, access, management, and analysis of large secondary healthcare datasets as well as leading the design and execution of various pharmacoepidemiologic studies.

The position is full time and is being offered on a fixed term contract until 31st March 2027.

SIPBS is ranked in the top fifty globally and first in the UK for pharmacy and pharmacology.

The postholder will join the Pharmacoepidemiology and Healthcare Research Group in SIPBS to support our expanding applied health services research programme and will be working specifically on a collaboration between the University of Strathclyde and Public Health Scotland, funded by the Scottish Government:
The Cancer Medicines Outcomes Programme (CMOP-PHS).

Established in 2016, CMOP-PHS focuses on generating real world evidence on cancer medicines, creating a national cancer intelligence resource capability to provide rapid feedback on findings to inform policy, service delivery, and patient-clinician decision making.

An important aim of this project is to explore the generic capability of existing clinical systems to support outcome evaluations for cancer medicines.

The national adoption of a systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) electronic prescribing system affords the opportunity to examine prescribing in the context of diagnosis, line of treatment and performance status, and to explore wider record linkage with other datasets to investigate the impact of different patient attributes (including social deprivation status, co-morbidity, and stage of disease) on clinical outcome.

As a Research Associate, under the general guidance of a research leader, you will lead the execution of the study protocols, playing a lead role in relation to this project.

You will write up research work for publication, individually or in collaboration with colleagues, and disseminate the results via peer reviewed journal publications and presentations at conferences.

You will join external networks to share information and ideas, inform the development of research objectives, and identify potential sources of funding.

You will collaborate with colleagues to ensure that research advances inform departmental teaching efforts, and you will collaborate with colleagues on the development of knowledge exchange activities.

To be considered for the role, you will be educated to a minimum of PhD level in an appropriate discipline, have significant relevant experience in addition to a relevant degree, or preferably independent postdoctoral experience.

You will have sufficient breadth or depth of knowledge in pharmacoepidemiology, statistics and data analytics and a developing ability to conduct individual research work, disseminate results, and prepare research proposals.

You will have an ability to plan and organise your own workload effectively and an ability to work within a team environment.

You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to listen, engage and persuade, and to present complex information in an accessible way to a range of audiences.

It is anticipated that formal interviews for this post will be held on Wednesday, 15 May 2024.
