At Oakhill Secure Training Centre we look after young people aged 12 to 18 years old who have been remanded or sentenced to periods of detention.

The vulnerable young people in our care can be challenging with a wide range of social and emotional complex needs.

This is an environment that calls for high standards of social care and service delivery to provide a secure and stable environment for young people to develop their life skills and address the behaviours that have led them into custody.


Oakhill Secure Training Centre works closely with the Youth Custody Services to ensure that its regimes and designs reflect best practice in residential care to prevent offending.

We are looking for an experienced Resettlement Caseworker to join our Resettlement team at Oakhill Secure Training Centre.

With excellent administration and organisational skills you will provide an effective and efficient administration service to a functional/ departmental team.

This is a case management role within the Resettlement Team to support young people's resettlement back into the community whilst promoting interventions and their safety and welfare in line with the YCS's national standards


Some of the key responsibilities are;

  • Manage a case load of young people with the aim to resettle them back into the community.
  • Chair Review meetings with the young person, families and professionals to agree a sentence plan.
  • Complete relevant documentation for internal and external reviews to ensure information is current and correct.
  • Complete risk assessments and plans and ensure these are communicated effectively with all stake holders.
  • Work with key professionals in the community to ensure that accommodation, education and a continuation of care is place ready for release.
  • Deliver interventions with young people to help change their behaviours and support them to desist from offending.
  • To support, guide and assist young people with their welfare, ensuring they have the right services in place to meet their holistic needs and that any safeguarding concerns are identified, managed and addressed whilst in custody.
  • Recording of information on electronic case management systems and IT.
  • Support the Units with direct work with young people so that they acquire personal knowledge of young people that will facilitate their participation in the review process.
  • Participate in the risk assessment during admissions so that the immediate vulnerability and risk of the young person is determined accurately.
  • Monitor the progress of young people during and after release by telephone contact with external agencies so that records can be kept on their progress to demonstrate the effectiveness of the STC.
All staff employed by G4S has the responsibility for their own Health and Safety and to their colleagues in order to assist G4S in its obligation to achieve British Safety Council Requirements at all times


Essential Skills

  • Experience and qualifications required for this role are detailed within the Contract Appendices
  • Experience of working with challenging young people.
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise tasks

Desirable Skills

  • Experience of monitoring service delivery and meeting short term objectives
  • Social Work qualified or equivalent.
