Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant

Position Overview:


Key Responsibilities:


  • Provide oneonone and small group support to students with SEN, both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Assist in the implementation of individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour management strategies.
  • Foster a nurturing and inclusive learning environment where all students feel valued and supported.
  • Collaborate effectively with teachers, therapists, and parents to monitor student progress and adapt support strategies as needed.
  • Encourage independence and selfconfidence in students by promoting their strengths and addressing their individual needs.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and behaviour, and provide regular feedback to relevant stakeholders.
  • Support students during transitions between activities and ensure their safety and wellbeing at all times.

Qualifications and Skills:


  • Experience working with children or young adults with special educational needs is highly desirable.
  • Relevant qualifications in education, psychology, or a related field are advantageous.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and parents.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting the educational and personal development of students with SEN.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently, demonstrating initiative and flexibility as required.
  • Commitment to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion within the school community.
  • Enhanced DBS clearance (or willingness to obtain) is essential.
