JOB DESCRIPTION:


We are seeking a Mechatronic Engineer who will work within the facilities team across the College to provide efficient and effective technical maintenance, repair, installation and support service primarily for machines and associated equipment / services.


This role provides an essential service to our students and apprentices and the successful applicant should be committed and confident with a methodical approach to work, as well as having good communication skills in order to work effectively as part ofa team.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Customer service wherever possible ensure what is required is what is provided.
  • Wherever possible ensure maintenance, breakdowns and repairs cause minimum disruption to college activities (including utilisation of out of hours working and breakdown cover).
  • Undertake a leading role in the maintenance, repair, installation, development, implementation, review and monitoring of the College mechanical and electrical plant and equipment.
  • Optimise equipment and plant operational performance through regular maintenance, root cause failure analysis, diagnostic techniques and rapid response repair activities utilising best engineering practices.
  • Give technical support when required and stay abreast of best relevant technologies and ensure they are used where possible.
  • Recommend improvements to reduce downtime or increase efficiency.
  • Collect and record M&E data including condition and project surveys.
  • Develop and maintain engineering schedules for college M&E systems.
  • Ensure accurate uptodate records are kept. (Wiring diagrams, equipment drawings, software programmes, operating sequences, etc.) Assist with maintaining, modifying and updating the College drawings, records and data for M&E systems in both electronicand paper formats.
  • Undertake or assist as directed project management providing design solutions or providing input into design solutions to prepare or enable the preparation of M&E project specifications and working drawings.
  • Assist senior estates staff in the coordination of the Estates technical function.
  • Assist in the control of appropriate stock of M&E spares and consumable items monitoring stock levels and reordering in accordance with existing procedures.
  • Give guidance to contractors on site ensuring quality of work, and compliance with Safety, Health and Environment (SHE), statutory regulations and College policy.
  • Support and give a 'back up' service to Facilities Department supervision and management.
  • To adhere to procedures and working practices which are in place to cover routine department and College wide activities and ensure these are consistently applied and fully respected.
  • Being part of a Quality Team and responsible for promoting ideas and suggestions to improve the work of the College's Facilities Department including delivery of appropriate staff training.
  • Undertaking training as required by the College in order to accommodate flexibility and development within the Facilities and College structure.
  • Participating in the College Staff Personal Development Review (PDR).
  • Carrying out any other reasonable duties within the overall function commensurate with the grading and level of responsibility of the job.

About you:


The successful applicant should be able to demonstrate the ability to work on their own initiative and to plan and prioritise workloads whilst working in line with Health & Safety policies, procedures and regulations.

Applicants should be City & Guilds or equivalent qualified / experienced in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering.
