We have a fantastic opportunity for a
Permanent Fitter - Rail to join our
Central Frameworks in
Birmingham -
On site working role.



Amey have a framework agreement with Network Rail for the past 7 years on West Coast Mainline (WCML) for
OLE/E&P work between Crewe and Euston. We also have works in Birmingham New Street Station replacing all the OLE within the tunnels and a contract for ESIP where we are
installing new motorised switches and taking out the old manual switches in different area's on the WCML.

Fitter - Rail plays an important part in to maintain Amey's plant to ensure the maximum availability and reliability is achieved while maintaining compliant standards, and ensure that the equipment is maintained in accordance with relevant standards and procedures. The plant can include MEWP's, Drilling rigs, Lorry based MEWP's, Generators and Drills.


The standard hours of work are
160 hrs over 4 weeks.

You will be responsible for:


  • Comply with the Maintenance Management System and planned maintenance of the system plant in accordance with maintenance programme and approved maintenance manuals/schedules.
  • Maintain the proactive delivery of preventative and reactive maintenance and repair to maximize plant availability and reliability.
  • Assist operator/maintainers to maximize performance, to ensure compliance with all relevant technical, quality, environmental and safety standards.
  • Assist with investigation and reporting of faults Identification of fault trends.
  • Assist with monitoring and reporting on maintenance performance and machine reliability.
  • Assist in developing modifications or improvements to maintenance processes and regimes to deliver performance and financial benefits.
  • Assist with the development of apprentices
  • Assisting with The Plant Assurance Coordinator within the planning and lifting operations, ALO arrangements, and the methods of communication to enable safe OTP Operations. To help support the implementation of the POS Plan.

We want to hear from you if you have:

  • Recognised engineering apprenticeship or equivalent as a minimum NVQ level
  • Must be able to drive (full valid licence).


  • Computer literate

  • Sound professional engineering and IT skills. Knowledge of the various industry regulations
  • Experience of rail ontrack machine or other plant maintenance
  • Experience of maintenance of large plant or systems including pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical systems
  • Previous engineering experience and experience in railway plant
  • Proven experience in maintaining plant
  • Proven POS experience
  • Somebody who is happy to working nights, days, weekends and bank holidays.
