Principal Forensic Investigator (Health & Safety) - North England

EFI Global UK offer fully impartial expert opinion on environmental consultancy and forensic investigations.

We receive instructions from insurance companies, their principals, brokers, as well as direct appointments by loss adjusters, Local and National Governments, companies, and individuals.

Due to continued growth, we now have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Health and Safety Investigator.


This is a diverse and challenging position that will involve supporting the department and Sedgwick in relation to Health and Safety processes and procedures as well as having the scope to investigate a wide range of incidents in domestic and commercial settings, ranging from low value insurance claims through to high value claims involving large marine losses.

Along with visiting our laboratories, you will also visit incident locations to interview witnesses and to gather material evidence.


There is a practical element to the job in that occasionally you may be required to carefully dismantle machinery, equipment, or component assemblies in a systematic manner to obtain the evidence that you require to determine the cause of an incident.

This practical aspect of the work also extends to the requirement to devise and possibly undertake tests, often with outside agencies or contractors, as and when the need arises.


The incumbent will support the wider department in respect of health and safety processes and procedures as well as investigate claims and carry out investigations to agreed fee targets while also working with other team members to raise awareness of the team's expertise.


You will have/will be:

  • Educated to degree level or have equivalent experience and qualifications (IOSH, NEBOSH, etc)
  • Prepared and delivered health and safety processes and procedures and ideally have experience in expert witness work.
  • Experience in working with approved documents, associated codes and standards relevant to the job role.
  • A high level of interpersonal skills including the ability to motivate and inspire confidence in others.
  • Must be flexible, able to work occasional long hours and remain motivated.
  • The ability to plan and organise
  • IT skills commensurate with the position
  • Full UK driving license (essential)
  • Insurance industry experience is not essential as training can be provided
