The Role


Our Legal PA's at Ashtons Legal provide high quality and experienced PA support to our teams of partners and fee earners.

As an integral part of the team you will have a variety of different responsibilities.

Whilst not an exhaustive list, you can expect to:


  • Be the first point of contact for clients and new enquiries
  • Arrange for new matter inception, including conflict searches, in conjunction with the Central File Opening team, and overseeing and coordinating new referrals
  • Arrange appointments for your fee earners, ensuring wider meeting requirements are identified and actioned (such as equipment, refreshments etc)
  • Update client records on databases as required and to maintain records of client enquiries
  • Initiate and drive the billing process with your fee earners and contribute to your fee earners' financial performance by proactively working with them to manage their matter balances and writeoffs
  • Work closely with the Central Secretarial Services team to ensure any typing requests are completed in a timely manner and coordinate the return of typed documents and action next steps including amendments where necessary
  • Prepare expenses claims on behalf of fee earners
  • Proactively identify matters for closure and preparing final billing and/or return of client monies
  • Ensure all files are up to date, either by efiling or hard copy filing
  • Support the wider team when necessary such as holiday and sickness cover

Knowledge, skills and experience required

  • High degree of competence in the use of Microsoft Office
  • Legal PA experience would be preferred but you may have gained experience as a PA or secretary in a similar professional services environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, with appropriate and effective use of grammar and punctuation
  • Three years' experience (or equivalent) gained within a comparable environment and at an appropriate level
  • Be respectful, working with integrity and professionalism at all times
  • Willingness to work flexibly to meet client needs
This is an office based role.


Pre-employment screening
Should we make you an offer of employment, we will be carrying out pre-employment screening.


These checks will relate to professional and academic qualifications, references from previous employers, social media checks, your eligibility to work in the UK, disciplinary search with the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA).

We will also carry out a DBS search (Disclosure and Barring Service) which checks for any previous criminal convictions. Some roles at Ashtons Legal require a financial background check to be carried out.
