£14.26 per hour - Starting 8th February for 7 weeks
36.5 hours per week
About the company
Sue Hill Recruitment are presently recruiting for a Temporary Information (library)Assistant for our Higher Education client to provide cover for a 7 week period.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
To provide a high level of customer service and user support to staff and students in the library, which will include:
- Maintaining Moodle content and reading lists
- Maintaining the print journal collections
- Staffing the Library service desk, including inducting new users
- Assisting with Library administration, and collection management
The post holder may have sole responsibility for the library during lunchtime periods, and undertake occasional evening shifts and be a Fire Evacuation Marshal.
TASKS AND DUTIES
- Maintaining Institute content in UCL Reading List system and Moodle
- Maintaining the print journal collection on a daytoday basis
- Checkingin and processing new journal issues and claiming issues not received
- Staff the library desk on a rota, providing a comprehensive customer service, dealing with membership enquires, supporting circulation services, & overdues procedures, handling payments & raising invoices
- Open or close the library when required following documented procedures
- Provide offdesk assistance in the library, supporting users in the selfissue kiosk
PERSON SPECIFICATION
- Previous experience of working in a library, with a sound knowledge of library procedures, including Library management systems
- Familiarity with Virtual Learning Environments (e.g. Moodle)
- An understanding of copyright law regarding electronic & print media
- Excellent written communication skills such as the ability to draft own correspondence
- Excellent interpersonal skills including tact and diplomacy, able to relate to & cooperate with a range of colleagues and customers in a multidisciplinary setting
- Excellent verbal communication skills, such as the ability to convey potentially complex information intelligibly to a diverse range of users
- Ability to work under pressure in a busy environment including the ability to make decisions on priorities and meet deadlines
- Ability to work independently and in a team
Job Types:
Full-time, Temporary contract
