About the job


My clients who are based in Saffron Walden, Essex, are looking for top talent to join them as an Electromechanical Design Engineer.

This exciting and diverse role involves developing our range of market leading chemistry equipment.

You will be working closely with the R&D team to develop and launch innovative new chemistry products as well as support the continuous improvement of existingproducts.


You will be responsible for the following:

  • Managing and delivering various NPD projects independently and as part of a team
  • Mechanical and electromechanical design of products at component and system level
  • Identification, evaluation, and integration of electronic components, including power supplies, PCBs, motors, fittings, connectors, sensors, firmware, etc.
  • Testing (establishing test protocols, collecting and analysing results, and reporting)
  • Identifying and working with consultants and external partners
  • Planning and costing (project plans, timelines, budgeting)
  • Preparation and updating of documentation, marketing material, instructions, production packs, BOMs, checking procedures, FATs, QA, testing, etc.
  • Managing and delivering product improvement projects (proactive and reactive Continuous Improvement)
  • Helping out other departments when required
  • A degree in electromechanical engineering or closely related field
  • 5 years minimum working experience in an industrial or R&D environment with a track record of delivering projects on time and to budget
  • Design experience with systems including electronic components (e.g., motors, PCBs, etc.), EMC design techniques and solutions, and Failure Mode Effects Analysis
  • Knowledge of electronics circuit design and implementation within measurement and control devices
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials (e.g., machining, moulding, sheet metal, coatings)
  • Excellent knowledge of 3D SolidWorks

Other useful experience might include:

  • Electrical engineering, electronics, software, or similar degree or experience
  • Working in the scientific glassware and instrumentation sector
  • Good understanding of communications protocols for software and hardware
  • Latephase product development and debugging experience
  • Continuous Improvement / product lifecycle management in an engineering environment

And have the following qualities:

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interact effectively with colleagues of various backgrounds
  • Well organised with good attention to detail and the ability to maintain high levels of accuracy
  • Forward thinking to improve current systems and suggest new initiatives
  • Diligent attitude with the determination to see things through to completion
  • Adaptable and willing to learn new skills
