WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are currently recruiting for the Challenger 3 Trials Trainer to join our growing LEP team.


The Challenger 3 Trials Trainer will play a crucial part in the Challenger 2 Life Extension Programme (CR2 LEP) trials team.

They will act as a liaison between the Training Team and the Trials Team to ensure that Trials crew competency is effectively delivered, managed and maintained throughout the trials program.

This role will include extensive travel through the UK and Germany.


General duties and responsibilities

  • Responsible for the management of competence of the RBSL trials crews and wider trials team in order to ensure that training is completed and maintained to the agreed level and that all personnel remain suitably trained and competent throughout the trials program.
  • Mentoring and developing vehicle crews (including former CR2 operators, specialist engineers and technicians) to the safe and effective operation of the CR3 trials vehicles.
  • Support the training team in the generation of bespoke training for the RBSL CR3 trials crews through Training Needs Analysis or training material generation.
  • Conduct delivery of CR3 training to RBSL trials crews and the wider trials team. This will include initial, refresher and any gap training.
  • Support the delivery of Train the Trainer training to Army personnel in support of User familiarisation training for trials.
  • Act as a conduit for training material feedback between the deployed trials team and the Training Team in order to develop and mature the training material.

Vehicle commanding

  • Responsible for the overall crew and vehicle safety, and the vehicle's operation in accordance with operating procedures, trial documentation and local/standing orders (as applicable).
  • Supervising vehicle crew and ensuring they are supported in their tasks.
  • Responsible for maintaining clear communications with off vehicle personnel e.g. Trials Manager and Vehicle Owners.
  • Responsible for ensuring accurate feedback of information regarding failures and faults.

Vehicle loader / operator

  • When operating as the vehicle loader/operator they will support the commander in the safe operation of the vehicle.
  • Responsible for handling and loading of the new 120mm smoothbore main armament with ammunition weighing up to 29 kg.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS YOU SHOULD HAVE
Mandatory

  • You must hold a full UK drivers licence, including category H tracked vehicles
  • You must have instructional experience at Gunnery Schools Instructor level.
  • You must have recent Challenger 2 experience as a crew commander or similar.
  • You must be capable of handling ammunition weighing up to 29 kg per round.
  • An understanding of the conduct of Live Firing procedures and range safety
Desired

  • Trials experience and knowledge e.g. from ATDU / ETG, is desired.
  • SC cleared.
