Description
The post is based at Salisbury District Hospital within the Child Health Department.

A detailed job plan will be discussed and agreed with department within the first month of staring to the post.

In principle the job plan consists of the following: 9 PAs for direct clinical care


INCLUDING:

This includes consultant of the week duty weeks covering the paediatric ward, neonatal unit, postnatal ward and labour ward as needed.

There is a 1 in 10 rota for providing out of hours on call Monday to Friday, during these shifts you would be expected to be resident on site until 1900 and then available as needed.


All consultants contribute to the overnight resident on call rota (approximately 1 in 10), taking the middle grade role and working alongside an SHO who will be a foundation doctor or GP trainee.

There are Day Assessment Unit shifts which are a combination of taking referrals for unwell children, seeing urgent outpatients referrals and covering the advice and guidance service for GPs.

When not consultant of the week there will be a combination of general paediatric clinics (weekly) and multidisciplinary clinics for the cerebral palsy service and the neonatal follow up clinic (monthly).

1.5 PAs for Supporting Professional activities to support annual appraisal and revalidation.


This includes time for mandatory training, attending safeguarding supervision and training, clinical audit and clinical governance, as well as attending and contributing to departmental educational activities, for example multidisciplinary simulation training.

0.5 flexible PAs for departmental roles including clinical supervision of trainees.

There is an additional flexible 1 PA for either a leadership role on the neonatal unit, or for backfilling another paediatrician to take on this role.
