About the Role:

GP Healthcare Alliance is looking to welcome an experienced, qualified phlebotomist into our GP Federation, to work in the Ashingdon area on Saturdays, from 9am - 1pm.

The successful applicant will work under the direction of the lead clinician, as part of the practice multi-disciplinary team.

The post-holder will be responsible for performing tasks including:


  • Working strictly in accordance with specific primary care network (PCN) guidelines and protocols, to assist the PCN clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care;
  • Collecting samples of blood in accordance with training and procedures, ensuring correct storage, labelling, recording, and efficient dispatching of samples;
  • Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible, and confirming their agreement to the collection of a blood sample;
  • Checking patient identification against appointment details and confirming with patient whenever possible;
  • Ensuring that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff;
  • Notifying the GP of any significant patient issues;
  • Liaising with and assisting members of the administrative team.

You will have the following skills and qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care or equivalent qualification or experience;
  • Relevant qualification and clinical knowledge and skills in venepuncture;
  • Experience of working in a healthcare setting, ideally within primary care;
  • Ability to record accurate clinical notes;
  • Consistently confidential, compassionate and respectful approach, placing a high value on the dignity of patients, relatives, carers and colleagues;
  • Ability to communicate effectively and to understand the needs of the patient;
  • Problem solving with the ability to process information accurately and effectively, interpreting data as required;
  • Flexibility and an adaptable approach;
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.

We work together to provide healthcare for all practices and patients. All practice members remain independent contractors but work collaboratively to improve healthcare services within our area.
