Description
We are seeking a motivated individual to join the newly established Gwent Health Protection Service.

As a Health Protection Senior Nurse, the post holder will be required to work across the whole of the Health Protection Service and it's various functions including testing, public health and protection, data and surveillance, testing and sampling, and the mass vaccination programme.

The post holder will be required to be a visible and professional clinical leader with responsibility for the day to day professional and operational management of the clinical staff within the Service.

They will lead a team with various workstreams including ensuring that the Health Board has a robust plan in place, and is prepared for any future incidents that pose a threat to public health.


As well as preparedness, the post holder will be expected to provide appropriate clinical management and leadership to the identification, prevention, control and relevant response to infectious and non-infectious threats to the population of Gwent.

This may include, but is not exhaustive of, providing clinical leadership and advice, establishing situational awareness, surveillance, mobilising health protection functions and engagement with relevant stakeholders in the event of a public health incident or outbreak that could have varying levels of severity.


Be a visible and professional clinical leader with responsibility for the day to day professional and operational management of the Clinical staff within the Health Protection Service.

Support the management and leadership team to assure high quality, effective and efficient patient services.


Play a pivotal role in developing and implementing key strategic, clinical and operational changes to services in line with service reviews.

Be responsible for the clinical and operational management of the clinical staff across the Health Protection Service

Develop the clinical governance agenda

Be responsible for ensuring that performance management

Lead the management of incidents, complaints and subsequent actions in line with the Health Board's policies and procedures, and legal parameters,

Assist with the strategic direction and forward planning of the Health Protection Service.

Lead on specific projects on behalf of the Programme as agreed with the management and leadership team.

Build and strengthen relationships with Health Board and Local Authority partners taking forward partnership working and the integration agenda.

Lead on and ensure the service user feedback agenda is developed and maintained across their area of responsibility.

Line manage relevant individuals within the service, e.g., Health Protection Nurses.

Be highly competent in communicating within the service s and contributing strongly to wider communication with other divisions; Local Authority colleagues; relevant Health Board committees; working groups; patients; carers; and the public using a range of methods including verbal, written and adapted formats where required.


Be skilful in the preparation and presentation of highly complex verbal and written reports which communicate sensitive and potentially contentious information delivered in a format that is appropriate for the specific audience.


Provide highly complex advice underpinned by a high level of theoretical knowledge on issues relating to clinical, operational, strategic and other matters relating to the delivery of the Programme.


Be proficient in communicating and collaborating with key stakeholders such as immunisation leads within ABUHB and across Wales and throughout the UK.
