About the Role

Base Location:

Flexible Scotland | We're proud to offer a Flexible First approach to work, and this role is no exception.

We will, however, need your base 'home' location to be one of our SSEN offices or depots around Scotland - Perth, Glasgow, Aberdeen or Inverness.


Salary:
£40,600 - £61,000 + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

SSEN Transmission is at the heart of the transition to net zero in the UK.

In the coming years, our network will be pivotal in connecting and transporting the power needed to decarbonise the UK's electricity network and in doing so power the UK's net zero ambition.

Our business is rapidly growing, in order to deliver the largest investment package that Scotland's electricity system has ever seen, with a projected investment programme of over £20bn in the next 10 years.


As the Sustainability Engagement Lead at SSEN Transmission, you will interpret data and develop narratives to communicate our impacts on people, the environment, and economy to a range of internal and external audiences.

You will lead the preparation of our Annual Sustainability Report and contribute to other external communications on sustainability topics.

In addition, you will coordinate an internal community of practice and a sustainability champions network, including through the management of our sustainability SharePoint.

You will report to our Sustainability Strategy Manager, sitting in the Sustainable Economics Team.

The responsibilities of the Sustainability Engagement Lead include:


  • Lead internal sustainability engagement


Act as a key point of contact for colleagues across SSEN Transmission on sustainability topics, providing proactive support in the form of resources on our Sustainability SharePoint.

Establish a sustainability champions network and community of practice, and lead internal events to drive engagement on sustainability topics.

Lead Annual Sustainability Reporting


Manage the annual project to prepare our Annual Sustainability Report, including interpreting data, identifying narratives, drafting content, managing rounds of review by colleagues and designers, securing approval by the Executive Committee and Board, and managing the report's launch and communication.

Lead supplier engagement programs


Working with capital project teams and procurement, design and lead the delivery of engagement programs with our key suppliers on sustainability topics.

Programs will aim to support suppliers to meet sustainability-related requirements and to share best practice, challenges, and opportunities in delivering against our sustainability goals.

Lead sustainability engagement with SSE Group & other Transmission Owners


Coordinate action with sustainability colleagues across SSE Group, including leading SSEN Transmission's contribution to the SSE sustainability community of practice.

Coordinate engagement with other Transmission Owners on sustainability topics.

Lead sustainability governance


Provide secretarial support to our internal sustainability governance bodies, ensuring timely and appropriate oversight and accountability of key sustainability topics by the relevant individuals and bodies.


What do I need?:

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • A strong understanding of sustainability including familiarity with UN Sustainable Development Goals and the broader sustainability landscape for businesses.
  • Experience of preparing sustainability reports in line with relevant reporting standards such as GRI, SASB, ISSB, TCFD and ESRS.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with evidence of building good working relationships with a range of stakeholders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to present to a wide range of audiences in an engaging way, and to produce highquality reports, papers and communication materials.
  • Experience of managing communications platforms such as SharePoint or similar.
