Description

Duties:

  • Use judgment to translate complex clinical details into sets of codes where the diagnoses, procedures or both are not readily codeable.
  • Prioritise the order to which complex diagnostic and procedural coding appear to ensure maximum financial income to the Trust.
  • To be selfsufficient in resolving complex clinical coding queries/issues by referring to national clinical coding standards, policies and relevant national helpdesk query resolutions.
  • Ability to work to demanding timescales and at times challenging deadlines
  • Plan and prioritise own workload on a daily basis without direct instruction or supervision to ensure the achievement of daily coding targets.
  • Use own initiative regarding staff rotas, and be able to adjust to these at short notice. This includes been able to work flexibly across multiple specialities and clinical directorates as required.
  • To plan own educational/ training programmes ensuring meets the needs of the data security standards 3 training toolkit annually. This includes Mandatory 3 year Clinical Coding refresher Course, Speciality Training and Trust mandatory training.
  • To be selfmanaging in maintaining all new national guidance in relation to clinical
- coding practices and ensure own coding skills are kept up to date, widening and strengthening own skill set across various clinical specialities.

  • Ensure all ICD/OPCS books are kept up to date with the latest guidance.
  • To be responsible for uncoded finished consultant episodes over a wide range of specialities.

Qualifications, Training and Knowledge:

  • National Clinical Coding Qualification ( NCCQ)
  • Clinical Coding Standards Couse Certification or Clinical Coding Standards Refresher Course training Certification
  • A Level or equivalent qualifications
  • Certificate in Anatomy & Physiology
  • Health Informatics Qualification
  • Basic Computer course, E.g. ECDL
  • Clinical Coding Speciality Workshop Certification
  • Medical Terminology Certification
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Effective organisation and time management skills
  • Mentoring skills
  • Ability to work to strict and challenging deadlines
  • Ability to work autonomously or as part of a team
  • IT Skills (including Microsoft Office)
  • Detailed knowledge of national coding rules and conventions
  • In depth knowledge of ICD10 and OPCS
  • Extensive knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy and physiology
  • Knowledge of the Clinical Coding Audit processes

Note:

This is a full-time job, 37.5 hours/week, for an initial 6 month contract.

Payrate:
first 12 weeks: £14.32/hour, following 12 weeks:£16.94/hour
