The team:


The Deal Analytics Team (or Strategic Profitability Insights, SPI team) works with KPMG Deal Advisory (Corporate Finance, Transaction Services and Value Creation) teams to deliver value-add insights on the fundamentals of a Target business.


Our team uses a combination of Alteryx, Tableau, PowerBI, R, Python, and proprietary software to produce analyses in an efficient and effective manner.

The deal teams and Targets we serve are routinely impressed with the speed at which we can create robust analysis.

For example, we can understand, at a transactional level, what is driving business performance, often in 1-2 weeks, working with datasets in the tens of millions.


The role:


You will be joining a fast-growing team within Deal Advisory that is driving value for our clients using data-enabled solutions.

So what does that actually mean?

Our team works on a variety of engagements across industries, and the analytics required will vary by engagement.

The list of analyses below, therefore, is just a sample of what we produce, and our product offering is ever-expanding.

Using transactional, public, and private datasets, our team delivers insights on customers, products, and other categories regarding:

  • Sustainability
  • Pricing
  • Turnover
  • Profitability drivers
  • Customer/Product lifetime value
  • Concentration risk
  • Effectiveness and impact of strategic decisions
  • Wallet share
  • Feasibility of meeting financial goals
Given the small, entrepreneurial nature of the team, you will also help on ad hoc tasks for the team.

These requests vary widely in nature and may include developing and leading internal trainings, assisting the risk management process, staffing and resourcing, client pitches, and networking events.


Responsibilities:


  • Utilise a hypothesisdriven, problemsolving approach to explore data sets and design, construct, and rapidly test/iterate exploratory analyses to identify patterns that will reveal insight and opportunities for the client
  • Develop interactive dashboards and reports using PowerBI and Tableau
  • Oversee work with financial due diligence teams to provide deep business analytics and integrate findings into product deliverables
  • Prioritize and effectively manage several deal deliverables across multiple deals and workstreams
  • Perform machine learning, natural language, and statistical analyses, such as classification, collaborative filtering, association rules, sentiment analysis, topic modelling, timeseries analysis, regression, statistical inference, and validation methods
  • Automate analyses and author pipelines via SQL and python based ETL framework
  • Retrieve, prepare, and process data from a variety of sources such as social media, transaction databases, and operational data
  • Effectively align managers and staff on your engagements with their interests and general business needs to provide real time feedback and guidance to client and diligence providers to help ensure timely and efficient product delivery
  • Manage the Deal Analytics capability and oversee day to day operations, including offshore teams
  • Promote and be responsible for 'specialist projects', including developing new solutions for roll out to clients
  • Train and develop teams on relevant engagement analyses and industry KPIs
  • Identify team member development needs and accelerate development by establishing the appropriate plans and frameworks with particular emphasis on coaching and skills transfer
  • Be responsible for coaching and performance management of several junior staff in the department
  • Participate in the career and skills development of more junior staff and act as a role model with colleagues and clients by living the values of the Firm

Skills/Qualifications required:
To succeed in this varied and demanding role you will need to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

  • Extensive experience working as a data scientist or equivalent
  • Strong academic background and ACA qualified or equivalent highly desired
  • Significant experience in strategy consulting, financial analysis, mergers & acquisitions, transaction services, advisory, public accounting, or financial audit
  • Experience managing multiple projects and teams at the same time
  • Experience communicating the results of analyses with product and leadership teams to influence the strategy of the product
  • Ability to make wellreasoned, datadriven decisions in ambiguous or interpretive business situations
  • Strong personal impact and selfawareness
  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills
  • Evidence of working successfully with top management teams at clients
  • The ability to lead and operate in high performing, multidisciplinary teams
  • Superior analytical skills using financial modelling, research, and accounting analysis, proficiency with financial research tools
  • Alteryx, Tableau, PowerBI, SQL, R, Python and other technical capabilities highly preferred
