Description

About the tender:

Key Project Elements, to realise their vision, the project has four elements:

  • Accessibility: Their site will be transformed from a physically inaccessible site to one that is fully physically accessible through the ground floor, garden, and new exhibition space.
  • Sustainability: They will become an environmentally and financially sustainable organisation.
  • Visitor Experience: The visitor experience will be reimagined. Essential facilities not currently available, including toilets, offices, and a space for groups, will be provided in a new exhibitions and events space.
  • Community Outreach: They will develop an inclusive programme in collaboration with community groups.

Proposed outcomes of the exhibition:
To bring to life past stories of the town's people.

Displays will highlight the refurbishing of the house from a fisher cottage to the restored home of the architect James Scott, reflecting the change in the local areas from an industrial town to an affluent seaside destination.

The museum will become the main visitor attraction for audiences who wish to explore the social history of St Andrews through in-depth engagement with the house.

The downstairs displays (permanent exhibition) will highlight the Ladyhead area as a community hub where fisher families spent their work and leisure time.

The importance of change after the preservation movements in Scotland will be highlighted in the upstairs space (temporary exhibitions). The outhouses will be developed into two early to mid-20th century shops, with much of the original fittings repurposed. The new exhibition / events space will be a modern space.

Portable display cabinets and display panels will allow for a degree of flexibility in this space to accommodate temporary exhibitions and events.
