Lead Financial Specialist
The Wholesale Department within Authorisations is recruiting for a Lead Financial Specialist, to work collaboratively within a team of 8 specialists providing accounting, financial analysis, prudential and data analysis expertise to colleagues across the Authorisations division.
Key responsibilities include:
- engage with these firms and colleagues, to communicate assertively and potentially influence them;
- form a view on which risks and harms matter most, and how to mitigate them.
What does this job involve?
The Role Involves
Lead Associates in the department are responsible for:
- Ensuring the right decision is made with respect to financial assessments and/or analysis across different prudential risks and business models.
- Providing coaching, oversight and support to associates in the division
- Building prudential capabilities of associates across Authorisations, including through training.
- Dealing with complex prudential queries from firms and associates.
- Identifying cross-cutting trends and themes and reporting these via governance channels and local management.
- Continuous improvement, e.g. designing and implementing any changes to financial information requested in our forms
- Role modelling Judgement, Engagement, Delivery and Self-Management and the FCA values.
- Intellectual curiosity and an investigative mindset are critical qualities for the role.

Which minimum, essential & desirable skills are required?Minimum- Trained at graduate level in accounting / financial analysis / prudential risk / data analysis (or working towards such a qualification) - both academic and professional qualifications welcome- Proven work experience in role relating to accounting / financial analysis / prudential risks / data analysis

Ability to make a strong personal impact, persuading with well-reasoned arguments and challenging where appropriate.- Coaching others- A good team player who demonstrates an inclusive approach and the impact and influence to generate shared goals for the Department.- Ability to influence individuals while maintaining the integrity of messages that may need to be conveyed, ensuring consistency of outcomes.- Some experience of prudential/financial risk management and regulatory frameworks.- Able to prioritise work and to meet deadlines.- Good verbal and written communication skills, with some experience of writing reports.
Desirable- Experience of a number of business models of firms we regulate.- Experience working in a financial analyst capacity- Leading the diagnosis and remediation of prudential risks in firms so that the potential for harm is reduced.- Ability to adapt to changing circumstances, positively embracing innovative approaches.
