The Rehoming Officer helps people with sight loss to live the life they choose by managing the flow of dogs that need to be placed into new homes or alternative working careers.

This includes retired guide dogs, retired breeding stock and dogs that are not best suited to the guide dog training programme.

This role supports the delivery of the national rehoming service for Guide Dogs by managing all aspects of the dog and customer (rehomer) journey once a dog has been identified for rehoming.

Working with our technical training and behavioural staff they will understand the character traits and complexities of every dog that requires rehoming and use this data to identify the best possible outcome for the dog.

The Rehoming Officer will ensure we manage a portfolio of potential rehomers to minimise the time between withdrawal and moving to a forever home.

Where appropriate the Rehoming Officer will work with 3rd party organisations to offer dogs an alternative working career or provide support for our more complex dogs to find them a suitable home.

For this role you'll be working 35 hours per week, worked 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.

We are looking for you to attend the Exeter office at least 2/3 days per week, the remainder of your week may be spent working from home.

Essential

Five GCSE/'O' levels, or equivalent, to include Mathematics and English at Grade C or above (QCF level 2 / SQCF level 5).
Practical experience working with dogs within either dog care or training environment.
Practical experience of having to develop and maintain strong working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders and deal with complicated and emotional situations.
Demonstrable written communication skills to a high standard and can analyse and extract key information.
Proven interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with a broad range of internal and external contacts.
Able to demonstrate aptitude for dog handling/training.
Experience of using computer systems and being able to extract and input accurate information.
Desirable
Accredited learning in the areas of animal welfare or behaviour.
