The post holder will work as a key member of the divisional management team to establish a culture of high-quality professional nursing leadership across the clinical division.

This will be in accordance with Trust values, ensuring the delivery of effective, efficient, and high-quality services for all patients and their families/carers.

The key purpose of the role is to provide professional leadership for nursing across the clinical division and to develop a clear vision for the contribution of nurses to the overarching ambitions of the service.


This post will provide professional leadership to support all nursing colleagues across both dental hospital and community locations between Birmingham and the Black Country region.

They will work to link both general nurses and dental nurses as part of the wider BCHC Nursing family.


The post-holder in conjunction with the Divisional Director of Nursing & Therapies will lead the way in reviewing and developing the clinical education, professional development and career pathways of all nursing professions including those in a training/student capacity.


The post holder will also work closely with the Professional Lead for AHP/DCPs within dental division to standardise the use of Quality Improvement methodologies across services.

As the Professional Lead for Nursing and a core member of the divisional Senior Management Team.

The nurse professional leadership contribution will be centred around:

  • Care quality
- improvement and research, patient safety and experience, clinical effectiveness, safe staffing assurance, safeguarding and service transformation.

  • Clinical practice
- working at a senior professional clinical level supporting, enabling, and advising on best nursing practice and standards including working clinically as required

  • Education
  • Continuing professional development, workforce development, preceptorship, and student education


This newly formed position within the dental services division will play a key role in shaping the future of nursing professions within our service including documenting clinical and professional strategies to meet the wider needs of our communities as well as our staff but also to play our part in the improvement of services across the Integrated Care System (ICS).

Support the Divisional Director of Nursing and Therapies to have clear oversight of compliance with all domains of the Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulatory framework.


As a member of the wider clinical division management structure provide strong, clear visionary leadership through team working to ensure effective operational management and delivery of nursing services.


Provide clinical input and expertise to clinical teams as part of the senior management team structure on a wide range of nursing professional and clinical issues.

To act as the ambassador and 'voice' for nursing at a senior leadership level in the clinical division.

To deputise for the Divisional Director of Therapies as required.
