About the role

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Payroll Control Team, as a Specialist Payroll Officer, due to internal promotions within the team.


Our main purpose is to be responsible for administrating payrolls across multiple clients including Pension payrolls while adhering to specified deadlines and audit requirements, in addition to ensuring that accurate information and support is given for customer enquiries and all statutory reporting is completed in a timely fashion in line with legislative deadlines.


The role is based at our office at One Angel Square, however the position is designated as part-flexible and therefore attendance to the office is only required twice per week, with the remaining three days able to be worked remotely if you wish.

What will you be doing?

As a Specialist Payroll Officer for West Northamptonshire Council, you would be working as part of a team to support the end to end processing of pay for circa 14,000 employees and 35,000 pensioners, across 17 different monthly payrolls, with pay dates ranging from the 24th to the last working day of the month.


As part of the role, you will be expected to take ownership of queries and incidents submitted via our case management system and work to resolve these efficiently, in line with agreed SLAs, to effectively calculate overpayments and correspond with employees regarding these to ensure repayment and to effectively process payroll instructions, such as the set-up of AVCs, pension opt outs, maternity calculations, attachment of earnings order etc, among other tasks.
