About the Role:
The core purpose of this post is to lead the coordination the WLGA's engagement with the UK Covid-19 Inquiry.
The role will also support the delivery of broader policy work, represent local government and the Welsh Local Government Association (WLGA).
This role and working on the COVID-19 Inquiry provides a unique opportunity to work at a senior level across a broad range of policy and service areas across the WLGA and local government, supporting and working with leaders, chief executives, senior legal and service professional colleagues in local government, the WLGA and the LGA.
The UK Covid-19 Inquiry is considering how well the UK was prepared for and responded to the pandemic.Local government in Wales played a significant role in responding to the pandemic and the WLGA is therefore a core participant in the Inquiry for specific modules to ensure that local government experiences and views are fully considered.
The WLGA is working closely with the LGA to seek to represent the experiences and views of Welsh local government to the Inquiry.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinating and leading the WLGA's engagement with and submissions to the UK Covid19 Inquiry team, the LGA and the WLGA's Leading Counsel, including:
- drafting of witness statements with WLGA colleagues and expert advisors,
- Recruitment Pack
- Policy Officer (COVID19 Inquiry) coordinating the collation of evidence in support of WLGA witness statements,
- areas of interest or risk to local government or the WLGA,
- liaising closely with the LGA's Head of Legal Services and Leading Counsel in
- preparing for the submission of evidence or witness statements and
- supporting the WLGA chief executive in preparing for any evidence;
- supporting the chief executive in providing regular updates to leaders and
- WLGA members; and
- authority chief executives and monitoring officers and any Welsh Government
- convened meetings.
- As a member of the core policy team supporting the chief executive, contribute to the delivery of other assigned policy work or projects within resource and budget allocations that deliver the WLGA's business plan.
- Contribute to the development of networks and partnerships that are of value to the
- Welsh Government, partners and stakeholders.
- Arrange meetings and produce papers and follow up actions as required.
- Work as part of a wider team, contributing towards building a culture of flexible and collaborative team working to ensure that the WLGA meets its business objectives and responds effectively to new or changing requirements.
- Model the WLGA's values and work in accordance with health and safety, equal opportunities and environmental policies.
