Your New Role:


You will help ensure new developments in our East region are well located and planned for and that they work harmoniously with the communities and environments surrounding them.

Through building trusted relationships and understanding the needs of our key stakeholders, you will collaborate with local partners and developers in identifying the transport impact of our future projects and the works needed to mitigate any impact.


What You'll Be Leading On:


  • Collaborating with Local Planning Authorities and other stakeholders to contribute to the development of local and strategic growth plans
  • Delivery of National Highways' responsibilities as a statutory consultee within the planning process, including commissioning specialist consultant support
  • Engaging with key external stakeholders by attending local planning meetings, discussion forums and providing evidencebased, transparent guidance and information on our emerging strategies, future local plans and regional programmes
  • Representing the region at public examinations, appeals and public inquiries
  • Collaborating with internal and external partners to identify and secure funding opportunities for improvements to the network that will promote economic growth

To Be Successful

  • Demonstrable experience and understanding of spatial planning and associated legislation, including development management
  • Proven practical understanding of the complex requirements of infrastructure development programmes
  • Qualified Town Planner or Transport Planner (e.g., IHT, RTPI), or equivalent professional experience (Chartership or willing to working towards is desirable [EF1]
  • Collaborative with the ability to partner, engage and influence a variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Evidence of working with local planning and highways authorities and local enterprise partnerships within a political landscape
