An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time Consultant ophthalmologist with a sub-specialist interest in Uveitis at Moorfields and Great Ormond Street Hospital.

The post is shared between Moorfields, City Road site, and Great Ormond Street Hospital. There are 10 programmed activities of which 7.0 provide direct clinical care.

In view of the highly specialised nature of the post, at least a two-year fellowship in Uveitis, and one year training in Paediatric Uveitis will be essential criteria.

INTERVIEW TO BE HELD 20TH APRIL OR 2ND MAY 2023

The post holder must be medically qualified and maintain GMC specialist registration and hold a licence to practice.


You will need to have experience in then management of patients with conditions requiring knowledge of Uveitis, both adult and Paediatric.

Experience of teaching, research and working in a clinical and/or biomedical academic environment is essential.

The Uveitis Service is delivered by a multidisciplinary professional team of consultants, clinical fellows, specialty doctors, specialist registrars, optometrists, nurse specialists, supported by an extended team of trained nurses, specialist ophthalmic technicians, photographers, administrators and management.

The team of consultant staff working within the Uveitis Service is:

  • Professor Richard Lee (Co-Service Director, Clinical Director of R&D and UCL Professor)
  • Professor Carlos Pavesio (Co-Service Director, UCL Professor, Director of Fellowship Programme)
  • Professor Narciss Okhravi (Director of Studies and UCL Professor)
  • Mr Mark Westcott (Honorary Consultant)
  • Mr Peter Addison (Clinical lead for Audit and Effectiveness)
  • Ms Dhanes Thomas (Clinical Director for Oriel)
  • Ms Angela Rees (Divisional Director-Moorfields South)
  • Mr Harry Petrushkin (Clinical Director for Digital Engagement & joint post with GOSH)
  • Mr William Tucker (Deputy Medical Director-Medical Workforce)

Provide High Quality Care to Patients:

  • The post holder must be medically qualified and maintain GMC specialist registration and hold a licence to practice
  • To develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties required of the post.
  • To ensure prompt attendance at agreed direct clinical care Programmed Activities.
  • To ensure patients are involved in decisions about their care and to respond to their views.

Performance Management:


  • To work with medical, nursing and managerial colleagues to ensure high performance in the following areas:
  • Clinical efficiency e.g. timeliness indicators, clinical indicators and the development of treatment pathways for patients.
  • Quality of outcomes e.g. reducing reattendance rates.
  • Financial management e.g. identification, implementation and achievement of cost improvement programmes and participating in efforts to ensure services are provided cost effectively e.g. managing locum agency spend, monitoring and managing the reading and grading centre budget, ensuring accuracy of clinical data for the team.
  • Operational efficiency e.g. demand management.

Medical Staff Management:


  • To work with colleagues to ensure junior doctors' hours are compliant in line with EWTD and New Deal.
  • To ensure that adequate systems and procedures are in place to control and monitor leave for junior medical staff and to ensure that there is appropriate cover within the clinical areas, including oncall commitments
  • To participate in the recruitment of junior medical staff as and when required.
  • To participate in team objective setting as part of the annual job planning cycle.
  • To be engaged in the process of annual appraisal and revalidation of all doctors in training, Trust doctors, Clinical Fellows and nonconsultant grades as delegated by the Service lead/Clinical Lead/General Manager.

Governance:


  • To review clinical outcomes in designated area using external benchmarking data where appropriate, to identify and advise variances to the Clinical Lead.
  • Participate in clinical audit, incident reporting and analysis and to ensure resulting actions are implemented.
  • To work closely with the Directorate, Patient and Public Involvement panels in relation to clinical and services developments as delegated by the Clinical Lead.
  • Participate in ensuring NICE requirements are reviewed and implemented and monitored in the speciality areas.
  • To ensure clinical guidelines and protocols are adhered to by junior medical staff and updated on a regular basis.
