The BEIS Records Management Service (RMS) is responsible for the management of BEIS' records in both paper and electronic form.
This is an exciting opportunity to join an established team who safeguard and preserve our most important records for future generations.
This role will involve reviewing physical paper records which essentially means that you will be reading, analysing and making decisions on whether the records hold any historical or organisational significance.
If they do, they are then sensitivity reviewed (removing personal/commercial data etc.) and prepared for transfer to The National Archives (TNA).
The role will also include reviewing our oldest electronic records while a new, technology-based process is created.There will also be the opportunity to review digitised records a later date, following testing and analysis of a new solution.

Person specification:
- You will be responsible for undertaking the review of legacy paper files and undertaking electronic reviewing using BEIS's IT Systems.
This will be done by ensuring:
- Review work meets deadlines to clear files held in external storage;
- Output deadlines to clear stored paper records are met;
- Records selected for permanent preservation are prepared and transferred to The National Archives (TNA);
- Electronic records already selected for preservation by TNA are automatically uploaded to the public site;
- The necessary sensitivity checks are made to ensure that material still sensitive is withheld or redacted before release to the public domain;
- Your work complies with legislative requirements of the Public Records Act 1958;
- You work closely with colleagues in the KIM team and at TNA to ensure BEIS complies with its statutory obligations and information requirements whilst making effective use of our IT systems.
Skills and Experience- Experience of working with records;
- An interest in history, politics or archiving.
