Hours 37.5 hours per week to include 1 Saturday in 4 and full participation in the weekend on call rota)

The department has a vacancy for a full-time team leader.

The team leader role encompasses direct supervision of technicians combined with full participation in the operational aspects of the department.

The Decontamination Unit provides a comprehensive decontamination service to theatres, wards and departments within the hospital complex. The unit processes reusable surgical equipment and medical devices.


As a clinical support service, the department operates from 8am - 7pm (Monday - Friday) and 8am - 4pm Saturday.

An on-call system is in operation from 4pm Saturday until 8am Monday. This on call system forms part of the team leader role. The on call covers trauma & emergency service for theatres and departments out of hours.

The shifts will be and on a rotational basis.

To supervise and participate in daily activities ensuring the effective decontamination and sterilisation of reusable medical devices

Supervise staff in all areas of production and distribution to ensure standards are maintained and work quotas met. Working within a controlled environment to ensure that QMS is effectively operated and monitored in accordance with the Quality Manual and associated Policies and Procedures

Communication and relationship skills

To work in all production areas of the department

To communicate with customers at all levels both face to face and by telephone. To deal with telephone enquires as necessary in a concise and appropriate manner, recording all relevant information and taking action as appropriate

To ensure that verbal and written communication is maintained within the departments

Demonstrate a courteous and helpful approach to visitors and Colleagues

Analytical skills

To decontaminate surgical equipment for use in operating theatres and departments throughout the trust.

To inspect and assemble equipment according to the agreed specification.

To ensure by examination that products have met the required standards

Required to demonstrate confidence that product conformity can be attained by effective quality control procedures within the processing area

Monitor performing daily test on the decontamination equipment

Reporting untoward incidents, non-conforming products and any other discrepancies or relevant information to senior staff immediately

Expected to develop a high degree of manual dexterity, accuracy, precision and speed.
