Head of Supply Chain

My client are a leading Manufacturing organisation based in Burnley, Lancashire who are looking to secure an experienced Supply Chain lead to their team.


Reporting directly to the CEO, you will lead and develop the internal operational supply chain function, MRP including stock control and logistics.


Key Responsibilities

  • To agree departmental strategies for Supply Chain management with the CEO, delivering on efficiency and high performance.
  • To manage the company's SKUs and clearance stocks, minimising risk by predicting demand and adopting MRP processes and technologies to ensure efficient and effective path management ultimately achieving the business aims for customer excellence, balancedwith effective overheads management.
  • Provide Lifecycle and gap information for phasing out and planning/scoping new products.
  • Set and manage Supplier Service Level Agreements, ensuring the business' supply base is robust and consistent. This includes supplier agreements, NDA's and copyright procedures.
  • Set and manage interdepartmental Service Level Agreements, ensuring dynamic solutions which ultimately lead to customer excellence.
  • Achieve and develop lean supply chain practices, minimising procurement costs and cash used. Reduce risk through currency purchases and raise awareness of the impact of any chances.
  • Negotiate cost prices, terms and manage cash/ stock effectively and within budget.
  • Manage and develop the internal supply chain function including all aspects of multiple location stock control and the coordination of buying, negotiation and the MRP system.
  • Negotiate costs and sample allowance for all new products.
  • Visit suppliers as required to validate and audit their facility against the company supplier criteria. You will note all processes and capability. You may also be investigating quality or conformance issues.
  • Manage Stock Control and optimise availability within a predetermined budget.
  • Have awareness of international trading and legal issues.
  • Manage imports, packaging, transport, compliance, and communication.
  • Implement, monitor, and develop modern buying and MRP systems in pursuit of customer service.
  • Placement of marketing material purchase orders and stock control in line with budget and agreement with the Sales Director.


  • Supplier Vetting

  • The supplier must be secure and approved before a purchase order can be drawn up. This extends to the supplier's suppliers you need to know all supplier details. Issues relating to transport and duty should be documented at this stage.
  • To develop, continually improve and monitor departmental processes and critical paths to achieve and efficient levels of service and production objectives.
  • To foster cross collaboration and continual improvement to ensure customer excellence is always attained.
  • To lead the teams with high visibility, as well as involvement to embrace and exemplify the company's highperformance culture, customer obsessed proactivity and 'can do' attitude.
  • To develop team's flexibility and agility, optimising resource use; To recruit, develop, support, and monitor direct reports through motivation, effective performance management [ensuring appraisals, training, 121's] and counsel, ensuring department achievesthe targets per strategies set.

Person Specification

  • Experience within a similar resource management/allocation role, with relevant qualification. Examples of accepted qualifications include, CIPS, CSCP, Bachelor's Degree or higher in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business Administration, Purchasing etc. Demonstrablesuccesses/ experience in role may be considered in substitute of qualification.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Time management skills and ability to work under pressured deadlines and external challenges.
  • Strategic planning and analysis skills, with a keen eye for detail and risk assessment.
  • Relationship management across suppliers, team members and other related stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Working knowledge of IT and Supply Chain technologies.
  • Good working knowledge of product and a reasonable understanding of marketplace demands, competitiveness and business acumen linked to B2B component specification linked products.
