McLaughlin & Harvey are one of the leading Building and Civil Engineering Contractors operating throughout the UK and Ireland.

We have an opportunity for an experienced Bid Writer to join our Civil Engineering Preconstruction team. Our Civil Engineering department undertakes a wide range of projects ranging from £5m to £150m.

The successful Bid Writer will play a vital role within an existing team and support the work winning function of McLaughlin & Harvey's Civil Engineering Department.

As Bid Writer you will become a valued member of an experienced and successful preconstruction team.

In this role you will prepare written content to support our tender and PQQ responses and co-ordinate the overall bid delivery.

You will work with our technical, estimating and programming teams, in addition to external partners, to prepare comprehensive and high-scoring tender submissions.

In addition you will also prepare for and attend post tender interviews.

You will work on the preparation of Pre-Qualification Questionnaires (PQQs) and Tender quality submissions.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparing compelling written responses to PQQ/Tender questions
  • Liaising with internal and external parties to obtain information for submissions
  • Managing the clarification and RFI process
  • Working with the estimating, planning and technical teams to coordinate and finalise tender submissions via hard copy or portals
  • Preparing PowerPoint presentations and attending client interviews
  • Creating/updating the preconstruction library/standard marketing information
  • Assistance with Business Development functions as necessary
  • Attending site visits and participating in PQQ/Tender interviews

  • Degree level qualification ideally within a construction related discipline

  • Previous experience in a similar role ideally within a civil engineering or bidding environment
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong IT and creative presentation skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work under pressure and to strict timescales
  • Time management and prioritising workload

  • Previous experience in the construction industry or in a bidding role
The successful Bid Writer will be expected to undertake occasional travel for site visits and tender interviews.
