The Growth Company's (GC) Business Growth Hub has an opportunity for a Junior Product Owner to Contribute to the development of a training and development directory across Greater Manchester, creating a marketplace for providers to display their products and services designed to upskill employer workforces.

Since 2011, the Hub has supported more than 15,000 businesses including start-ups, scale-ups, and established businesses, providing finance guidance, creating international links, and paving the way for innovation and people development across the region.

We work with the best of public and private partners, offering expert one-to-one and peer-to-peer business support, events, specialist programmes, funding and much more.


Key Responsibilities;

  • Lead on and develop an engagement plan to work with providers and potential new mentors with the aim of encouraging support for, and linkage with, Greater Manchester (GM) businesses.
  • Conduct initial discussions with providers, discuss their portfolio of training and development options and their skills strategy, and identify areas which could be enhanced for an employer offer.
  • Act as lead liaison between local employers, Greater Manchester Learning Provider Network (GMLPN), colleges, universities, training providers, and other relevant organisations to stimulate interest in workforce development and ensure that the best training solutions and provision is made available to businesses.
  • Provide knowledge and support to Specialists, Business Advisors, and other members of the team in relation to providers/training and mentoring solutions available, to meet the needs of GM SMEs.
  • Attend events and activities to provide input.
  • Act as a key point of contact for relevant stakeholders involved in the delivery of Skills support.
  • Maintain an understanding of local Skills provision, and products and services that are of relevance to businesses
  • Ensure all brokerage between providers, colleges, universities, and employers is followed up, and resulting activity is monitored and evaluated.
  • Carry out research into gaps in provision for the Skills Map and identify new providers to fill these gaps.
  • Carry out research into gaps of experience, knowledge, and sectors of mentors available on iMentor, and identify target areas in which to engage new mentors to fill these gaps.
  • Update Specialists, Business Advisors, and the Marketing team on new provision available for employers on the Skills Map and iMentor.

About You

  • Have experience of working across business and provider environments, with a particular focus on training and development, information, advice, and guidance.
  • Producing reports regularly to demonstrate progress.
  • Demonstrable understanding of employers of different sizes, in different sectors, with a particular understanding of the Greater Manchester labour market and economic landscape.
  • Demonstrable understanding of the issues and barriers to upskilling via training and development and apprenticeships.
  • Have an understanding of FE/HE and provider structures/working practices.

Skills Required;

  • Ability to think strategically and take an innovative and creative approach to work, work across organisational boundaries, and engage and influence a wide range of external stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written including highlevel, effective report writing skills, with the ability to produce reports at board level.
  • Able to work with key stakeholders to capture their attention, engage and enroll them on the marketplace, and garner their support of the programme, maintaining their enthusiasm throughout.
  • Understand the needs of/constraints on providers and Employers to support them effectively.
  • Coordination and management skills to ensure all activities are delivered as agreed.

Salary:
Up to £28,000.00 per year
