Although you will be employed by Oxford Innovation Advice, this role is an 18 month secondment to Innovate UK to work on the EDGE programme and you will be managed day to day by the team at Innovate UK.


Innovate UK EDGE is a key part of the UK innovation agency's investment in the innovative businesses that drive economic growth.

It complements Innovate UK project funding with intensive, specialist-led support for such ambitious businesses.


This is a new role created to support the expanding Marketing team within Innovate UK's EDGE team to support delivery of the EDGE service.

It will focus on the development and management of Innovate UK EDGE digital channels and capabilities.


Travel Requirements:

The role is field-based.

There will a requirement to travel, mostly nationally, and there is some flexibility in this as Innovate UK makes extensive use of telepresence tools for meetings to minimise unnecessary travel.

In general, you will need to work in Innovate UK's Swindon office once a week and may have an average of four to six nights away from home per month to attend conferences and events.


Primary Job Purpose
This role will focus on leading the development and management / maintenance of Innovate UK EDGE digital channels and capabilities including:

  • Being the product owner leading the user-centred development of , a key digital information product for Innovate UK that is in built in Drupal and attracts c. 20K unique visitors per month. We have ambitions to utilise the site for aspects of service delivery too.
  • Developing our internal communications capabilities by harnessing and tailoring digital platforms for our needs
You will have a successful track record of leading product delivery in agile environments.

You'll be guided by the fundamental principles of putting user needs first, focusing on delivery and outcomes over process, and being open and collaborative.

Success for you means supporting other Innovate UK teams (e.g. CRM and the reach and engagement directorate) and external agencies to deliver to the very best of their abilities.


You will own the vision for your product and engage your team and stakeholders in the development of that vision, creating and managing an iterative roadmap, responding to feedback and changes to accommodate user and business needs.

You will promote and keep people informed about the development of your product. You will represent users throughout the delivery process and use their feedback to inform continuous improvement.

You will lead procurement and management of external technology suppliers and web, SEO and analytics agencies.


Experience

Essential Experience:


  • Extensive experience of digital product management experience that includes researchbased conception, design, build project management and commissioning of complex web services and sites that involve third party integrations
  • Understanding of SEO principles and using analytics dashboards
  • Achieving commercial outcomes, delivering added value, understanding market and customer issues and using these to promote innovative business models
  • Proven ability to build effective working relationships with agile colleagues at suppliers and colleagues at your organisation working in an agile way
  • Effective budget management skills
  • Working within constraints, demonstrating ability to prioritise and mitigate and adapt to constraints
  • Successful management of senior colleagues and stakeholders with conflicting demands and priorities
  • Managing site integrations e.g. a Salesforce CRM integration
  • Setting and delivering against digital KPIs

Desirable Experience:


  • Agile qualification/qualification in product management
  • Working knowledge or experience of the Government Digital Service standard and how it can effect digital transformation
  • Working in a business facing organisation
  • Working up a commercial roadmap as well as a product one
  • Understanding of the public business growth support landscape, particularly with respect to the research and innovation ecosystem
  • Line management (the role could entail line management of a digital associate, focusing on the implementation of digital marketing strategy)
  • Experience of public sector procurement processes and of managing a call down contract budget
  • Experience of digital content creation (audio visual, graphical and textual)
