We have an exciting role for a Junior Energy Manager who will be responsible for supporting the Property Management team to manage, monitor, and reduce energy consumption across our property estate.

Lead on coordinating our behavioural and technologicaldelivery programmes on our pathway to Net Zero, reporting on progress and researching and recommending new technologies and innovations which will contribute to utility efficiency and reduction.

The role will involve completion of the Junior Energy ManagerApprenticeship (ST0161) to develop the technical, analytical, and strategic skills required to effectively influence energy management policy and practices which will ensure we meet our net zero, sustainability and corporate responsibility targets.

What will you be doing day to day?

  • Provides support to Property Project Managers on the preparation of budgets for environmental action plan and asset upgrade and replacement projects in relation to energy performance and carbon accounting.
  • Produce energy usage and reduction management information reports and benefits realisation relating to energy efficiency on all property programmes.
  • Identify and explain variables that vary the energy consumption of a building and process (Building operation: summer/winter; day/night, etc.) and propose control strategies accordingly.
  • Supports with the preparation of asset condition information in relation to energy efficiency.
  • Establishes and maintains highly effective relationships by listening, communicating at all levels, and following through with all departments and key service providers to achieve SGN's net zero targets.
  • Gathers information and feedback from stakeholders regarding utility usage and reduction opportunities.
  • First line escalation for energy efficiency related incidents that fall outside normal operating parameters.
  • Complete the Junior Energy Manager apprentice programme.
  • Implementing and/or maintaining metering and measurement plans and undertaking basic analysis of the outputs.
  • Work closely with the Property Helpdesk team to monitor BMS and Meter data, benchmarking usage and proactively identifying poorly performing assets.
  • Carry out basic checks on bills and other recorded data to verify accuracy and repeatability.
  • Contribute to all aspects of energy use audits.
  • Review and recommend equipment or technologies that will improve energy efficiency and reductions targets and contribute to asset upgrade and replacement strategies.
  • Work within Property Management to provide optimum facility comfort while reducing energy consumption levels.
  • Carry out site inspections energy surveys and audits and keep up to date with energy legislation.
  • Ensure current and relevant industry standards and regulations are complied with.
  • Deliver great customer communications.
  • Challenge any unsafe behaviours
What you'll need

Have a good understanding of building services systems and the energy use of buildings.

Knowledge of relevant Environmental and Sustainability Legislation.

Competence in Microsoft Office, PowerPoint and Excel.

We're also looking for;

  • Ability and aptitude to complete 2 years of training and education.
  • Self confidence and ability to work independently.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and logically.
  • Enthusiasm for energy management, renewable energy, and sustainability.


  • Driving Licence

  • Will be necessary to enable travel between sites and projects.
