Applications are invited for two full-time Research Associate positions to start in September 2023. The successful applicants will work on a collaborative project led by Dr Peter McMurray at the Faculty of Music.

Some possible areas of project focus include:

  • institutional auditory cultures (government, religion, law, guilds, education, etc.)
- sonic techniques of gender/sexuality

  • D/deaf culture
- phonography and other technology (including telegraphy, visual media, etc.)
- sound and science (physics, acoustics, biology, medicine)
- ecocriticism and sound
- architectural acoustics

The postholders will be based in Cambridge,with research trips to the relevant region(s) required as part of the role.

The successful applicants are expected to take up the position from 01 September 2023, or as soon as possible thereafter.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance.

The position includes a limited amount of teaching in the Faculty of Music, with further opportunities if desired.
