A six-month fixed-term or secondment opportunity has come up for an experienced support worker to join Islington's Non-Recent Abuse Team (NRAT).

The Support Co-ordinator will deliver a case management service to non-recent survivors of abuse (NRA).

They will deliver interventions, goal setting, advocacy, signposting and advice and support in such areas as benefits, employment, training and housing.


Interventions will be trauma informed and rooted in motivational practice, including participation in group and individual supervision, and combines multi-agency communication and planning.


The NRAT is a small team that sits within Adult Social Care and works with adults (survivors) who were abused in children's homes whilst under the care of Islington Council between The team supports those survivors who are struggling to manage practical elements of day-to-day life such as housing and benefits, as well as the emotional impact of childhood trauma, including Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Staff work in a person-centred, trauma-informed, and strengths-based way, so that survivors can build trust, but not dependence, to achieve life enhancing outcomes.

The Support Co-ordinator will deliver a case management service to non-recent survivors of abuse (NRA). They will carry a caseload referred according to the NRA protocol developed by the London Borough of Islington.


The post holder will deliver:

  • Care planning and coordination of a caseload of vulnerable people with varied and complex needs
  • Ensure that interventions are trauma informed and rooted in motivational practice, including participation in group and individual supervision, reflecting on practice, contributing to quality assurance and selfevaluation
  • Multi agency communication and planning (within the parameters of LBI information governance policies, the data protection act and the guidance set out in the NRA protocol). To liaise with other teams in the council and external agencies such as, Registered Providers, police departments, hospitals/GP, to achieve objectives, including external services on behalf of survivors no longer living in the borough
  • Goal setting with survivors to help them achieve positive outcomes for themselves
  • Accompaniment to appointments as required at specified location, or remotely
  • Brokerage and informal advocacy as required to support access to services that can meet a service users health and social care needs
  • Benefit advice and support to have knowledge of how the benefit system works and to support survivors with any appeal processes as and when needed
  • Employment and training advice and support
  • Housing advice and support to have up to date knowledge of housing law, housing options available, including the Council's Choice Based Lettings system, underoccupation, overcrowding and Mutual Exchange schemes
  • Immigration advice and support when appropriate
  • Supporting survivors to get their ID documents such as birth certificates, passports, driving licenses etc.
  • Preparing PowerPoint presentations and facilitating workshops for survivors

For example:
Pre-Tenancy workshops and webinars.

  • Maintain accurate, uptodate, and succinct records that demonstrates work completed and progress towards outcomes.
  • Help survivors to develop their resilience by maintaining current knowledge of national and local resources available to them in their locality, including through the voluntary and community sector, faithbased organisations, universal services such as play and youth and training and employment services.
